ULYSSES 2.2
MyBloomsday
The closing date for MyBloomsday has now passed.
MoLI is asking young people from 2nd to 6th class to tell us all about a day in their life, this Bloomsday, on Thursday, 16 June. And teachers, it's a schoolday – so we need your help!
As a follow-on activity from watching Branar's wonderful You’ll See… film (watch it here), we want to capture the diversity of lived experiences of young people from around the island of Ireland and put their voice and perspective at the heart of this day.
This is a simple and fun exercise that links imagination and biography, giving us a sense of what their days are like. Schools from across the country are taking part, and the submissions will be presented as an online archive later this year. We’re excited your class are taking part!
Note: The closing date for submissions is Friday, 8 July 2022.
How to take part on Thursday, 16 June
1. Watch the film with your students!
Galway-based theatre company Branar have produced a beautiful children’s version of Joyce’s Ulysses for children. Designed specifically for children aged 8 plus, it is performed using intricate paper design, an original score and a wonderful performer.
2. Teacher fills in teacher sheet (15 mins)
This sheet must accompany your class sheets when you send them to us.
3. Students fill in worksheets (45 mins approx)
The worksheets are composed of 6 questions, which prompt students to think about their day in an imaginative way, from morning to night. Students can write answers, or draw pictures, or a combination of both. This can be split up throughout the day, depending on your work plan.
4. Teachers gather teacher and student sheets and send them to MoLI.
Here’s how to return them:
- Preferred delivery method is posting but if you have the facilities, you can scan your sheets and upload them here.
- We advise against sending mobile phone pictures of the sheets, as they may require digital editing which could result in your submissions not making it into the searchable archive.
- The closing date for receipt of applications is 8 July 2022.
What happens next?
We will gather and collate the submissions during the summer, and a searchable archive of all submissions will be made available in late autumn. We will notify all schools in advance of the launch date for the archive, via the email contact provided in the submissions sheet.
